Hey, it’s Tuesday… so must be time for Barbara’s Heads or Tails meme... this week it’s HEADSSO, let’s see... Tools… oh I could have a LOT of fun with this one… LOL oh come on.. you know you went there too... Okay, making my brain behave…
I hope I’m providing my girls with the tools they need to be successful adults someday. I hope that the actions that Mr. W and I do in addition to the words we use (actions = tools, words = tools) are exactly what they need to be prepared in life. They need to be their own persons and think (brain = tool) for themselves. And I surely hope that they have seen from my heart how to have a caring heart (heart = tool) too.
I usually try not to be boastful about some of the little things that we do to be better persons. God is in the center of my life and I am not very loud about it (I think). Everyone has a job to do in his kingdom and I just don’t see my job shouting from the rooftops… but as a wonderful sweet friend told me a couple of years ago… you don’t announce your faith… but your actions show it. So these actions are also my tools.
So some of the more recent things that our family does to be good stewards for our fellow man:
- Both daughters donate hair for those charities that collect hair to make wigs for those that have hair loss (primarily cancer patients). April just made her 2nd donation in as many years just a couple of weeks ago.
- When we are done with things we try our best to donate them… we used to give their clothes and toys that they outgrew to the local Domestic Violence program of the Salvation Army. Now most things go to another local charity for those that need the extra help.
- We also do our best to donate to other organizations such as our church, and some medical associations (heart, diabetes, cancer, etc.).
The premise behind SpiritJump is fantastic – to provide hope and comfort to those that are battling cancer one gift/card at a time… to let each cancer fighter know that they are not alone. The co-founders of SpiritJump are Meaghan and Stacy… You really should go see their personal blogs as well as the charity blog. I joined SpiritJump after seeing how they offered such wonderful support to my IRL sweet friend Amy after her diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma just before Christmas this past year.
Now… I suggested you go to their blogs and charity site… now I am telling that you do... because RIGHT NOW… YES NOW… they are having a summer raffle (it’s a new raffle each week… so make sure that you keep going back) to raise funds to support the charity. This week’s items are ideal for summer… go check them out and make sure you enter 100 times (or more if you are so inclined :)). Now I have given you the tools you need to enter the raffle… a link… go.. go now…

I think it is wonderful that your girls donate their hair for cancer charity. It certainly sounds like you have given them good tools to be great giving people :) Thanks for the visit, and happy HOT :)
I love this post.
Thanks for speaking of Spirit Jump. What a wonderful organization. I've been a member for a few months, but wish I'd found it a long time ago.
My daughter has the thickest, most abundant hair and I know she didn't get it from me.. but last year she had it cut off and donated it. I was so proud of her... as you must be of your girls.
Grace. I know about your faith and you shout it quietly in everything you say and do.
Psst.. I think you used tool more times in your post than anyone else. No. You don't win anything. LOL!
Shout quietly... is that like jumbo shrimp?
SHOOT... I was going for the prize... dang it.
I've considered donating my hair too.. but not sure I can wait for it to be long enough.
How very positive!
Happy Tuesday. :)
certainly need special tools in today's world sandy
You are raising positive adults who will also care for others. Way to go!
That's a lot of tools. I guess the key is recognizing them and using them.
You have such a positive attitude and its obviously rubbed off on your girls. My husband and I have competed in Race for the Cure events but will see if there is more that we can do in our community. Great blog.
what a nice post Grace!!
I am sure you have taught your girls the right tools, because you certainly have them yourself!

That was a great post and right on topic
Donating hair is a great thing to do. Way to go. If you get a moment, check out this video -- ahamoment.com/pg/moments/view/1277 -- it tells the story of one woman's "aha moment" that led her to donate her hair, and how it inspired others to do the same. I think you'll enjoy it. This site, by the way, was created by Mutual of Omaha to highlight good works, inspirational stories, and "aha moments" of all kinds. Hope you like it, and perhaps you'll share your own story.
Thanks,
